2. Relatives of Nicodemus Ampuan, 49, grieve next to his body at the morgue in Navotas, Manila. February 7, 2017. Ampuan's niece, who was there the night her uncle was killed, said she was sleeping when she heard gunshots. She saw eight masked men leaving on four motorcycles after shooting her uncle inside their house at Barangay 20, in Caloocan City, Metro Manila.

3. Relatives of Ronnel Jaraba weep during the funeral procession of her husband in Navotas City, Philippines. On January 26, 2017, he was found lifeless along C3 Road. Ronnel was abducted by 6 armed men in civilian clothes. Ronnel, according to his family, was a former drug user but stopped when he became a father. Yet, he was not spared on the war on drugs of the government. His wake took 11 days due to lack of money.

April 14, 2017. Via Crucis is one of the highlights of the Moriones festival celebrated during Lent.

May 24, 2017. Civil rights groups aired their concerns of possible human rights abuses following the declaration.

6. Filipino soldiers take their position outside Resorts World Manila after responding to a terrorist attack inside the resort-casino complex in Pasay City, Metro Manila. June 2, 2017. Armed police and soldiers were deployed to the scene where a lone gunman fired his weapon and caused fire at the casino area. According to police reports, 38 people, including the gunman were killed in the incident.

Police reports said that the victim resisted arrest and that drug paraphernalia were recovered from the body.
